PCI Compliance & Security

What is PCI DSS?

PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) is a set of security standards designed to ensure that all companies handling credit card information maintain a secure environment. These standards are mandated by major card brands including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.

Stripe's PCI Certification

Stripe is a PCI Service Provider Level 1 certified company -- the highest level of certification in the payment industry. This means:

  • Annual audits: Stripe undergoes rigorous third-party security audits every year
  • Continuous monitoring: Real-time security monitoring and threat detection
  • Strict access controls: Limited employee access to sensitive systems
  • Regular penetration testing: Security experts routinely test for vulnerabilities

How Your Data is Protected

Encryption in Transit:

  • All payment data is transmitted using TLS (Transport Layer Security)
  • Your connection to Stripe uses HTTPS encryption
  • Card details are encrypted before leaving your browser

Encryption at Rest:

  • Stripe encrypts all stored card data using AES-256 encryption
  • Encryption keys are stored separately from encrypted data
  • Multiple layers of encryption protect your information

Tokenization:

  • Your actual card number is replaced with a secure token
  • TravelTracker only stores this token, not your card details
  • Even if our database were compromised, your card information would be safe

Fraud Prevention:

  • Stripe uses machine learning to detect fraudulent transactions
  • Suspicious activity is automatically flagged and blocked
  • Real-time risk assessment on every transaction
